Academy Awards

The movie making all over the world got the impetus of producing some wonderful movies throughout the years, owing to the advent of various awards ceremony. The awards ceremonies are considered the occasion, when the sheer diligence of the film makers and the people associated with the film making, goes noticed and rewarded. The Academy Awards, also known as the Oscars, is among the earliest of the award ceremony concerned with movies.

This award ceremony is presented annually by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). Since the advent of the 1st Academy Awards ceremony on May 16, 1929, at the Hollywood Roosevelt Hotel in Hollywood, this award ceremony has maintained its legacy till today.

The Hollywood industry boasts of having such a glorious awards ceremony every year whose formal ceremony is watched by a large number of visitors all over the world. The popularity of Hollywood movies has also added to the importance of the Academy Awards. Leaving beside the early categories of awards like, best Picture, Director, Actor, Actress and Supporting Actor and Actress etc, there are many new inclusions in the list of categories. Those who are not aware about Awards must know that Academy Awards is among the prestigious awards of the world. In order to qualify in the nomination list it has to follow certain rules and regulations laid down by the corporation behind arranging this ceremony.

The films qualifying for the nomination must open in the previous calendar year, from midnight at the start of January 1 to midnight at the end of December 31. The second law states a film must be a feature-length with a minimum of 40 minutes. Some of the later inclusion in the list of award categories includes Best Documentary Feature, Film Editing, Foreign Language Film, Makeup, etc. The Academy Awards are recently given for host of other categories like, Best Animated Feature, Best Cinematography, Costume Design and others. Some of the popular special academy awards include, Academy Honorary Award, Special Achievement Award, Gordon E. Sawyer Award, etc. These special awards are considered among the highly esteemed awards in the field of movie making and those who acquire these awards feel themselves to be blessed. These honors are generally given to those who have made remarkable contribution towards making the Hollywood industry a globally acclaimed one.

Those who have limited knowledge about Academy Awards must note that there were various changes in the venues of academy awards. In the 40s Grauman's Chinese Theater in Hollywood and Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles were the venues for hosting the Academy Awards ceremony. Later from 1950 to 1960, Hollywood's Pantages Theater acted as the host. In 2002, Hollywood's Kodak Theater became the first permanent venue of the awards. Some of the best movies are awarded with the academy awards. Many actors and actresses cherish the dream of holding the metallic lady in their hand and enroll their name in the list of the artists who have won Academy awards.
