While Barker Hangar in Santa Monica was the debut venue for the Billboard Music Awards from 1990-1991, Universal Amphitheater in Los Angeles hosted the award ceremony from 1992-1994. For the last couple of years MGM Grand Garden Arena is hosting the ceremony.
While George Harrison won the Billboard Century Awards in 1992, Carlos Santana was honored with this award in 1996. This award was bagged by Sting in 2003 and in the last year (2006), Tony Bennett was awarded with this esteemed award. Names like Janet Jackson (33 Awards), Mariah Carey (28) Michael Jackson (26), Madonna (25), Garth Brooks and Backstreet Boys are noted for bagging maximum number of Billboard Music Awards. Their contribution to American and World music is priceless and their consistent excellence has made them get such a good number of awards. In the coming years, this award ceremony is looking forward to develop new categories of awards and celebrate the event with more glory.
