Emmy Awards were given on January 25, 1949 for the first time. This ceremony was organized at the Hollywood Athletic Club. It is said that the name of the award “Emmy” was nothing but the feminization of the word “immy”. The word Emmy was a nickname referred to the tubes of image orthicon. These were common in almost all of the early television cameras. Shirley Dinsdale received the first Emmy in the very first Emmys awards ceremony. Presently a private company is making the trophies of Emmy Awards.
The trophy of the Emmy Awards is a statuette of a winged lady that is holding an atom. This statuette has also become almost synonymous to the TV Academies' aiming at supporting and elevating both, the art and science of television programs.
The wings of the statuette represent the muse of art, while the atom in her hand is regarded as the atom the electron of science. Television engineer Louis McManus created this model keeping his wife as a model.
The Primetime Emmys Awards are actually presented to recognize the excellence of the American primetime television program. This program is organized during the season of mid-September, on a Sunday, just before the official beginning of this fall television season. Presently the primetime television program is being shown by FOX, CBS, ABC, and NBC in rotation.
The Daytime Emmy Awards are actually presented to recognize the outstanding performance in the Daytime television program in America. In 1972s the first daytime-themed Emmy Awards started being given out at the very primetime ceremony. In the year 1974, the first individual Daytime Emmy Awards was organized.
